Description
Panela, a fresh white and smooth cheese, has its roots in central Mexico. In Mexico, you’ll find the cheese sometimes molded in a basket and sold as queso de canasta or basket cheese. Mild and curd-style cheese, it’s similar to Queso Fresco but less crumbly and a cross between firm ricotta and halloumi. Panela is best enjoyed while still moist and fresh or pan-seared as a snack.
